Music helps our boys to have confidence in themselves and as for the band members it makes them realize their dreams of being professional musicians in future. I have watched the band members perform and getting the recognition they deserve, I have seen what this can do to an individual. One becomes confident, works hard to fulfill the requirements of their role in the band.

Being a band member not only makes these boys popular, it also helps them to discover themselves. I have also made follow ups on some of the senior band members in terms of academics , because of what is expected of them they have even improved their planning skills, how they work at school and also most importantly when there is a performance, time keeping and team work.

We usually talk to the boys about career choices, if we are to consider music, it is one of the top careers in terms of income earned that is when one become successful. Research has shown that most musicians even abandon their different careers and focus on music. As much as music is taken for granted we realize that most of the well known and respected individuals who have left a mark in history are musicians.

At Parktown we are also trying to help those who have talent in music realize themselves. The Band currently has up to 40 members , 30 of which are able to perform  on public occasions. The band has performed on private parties, annual general meeting of board members for multinational companies, not to mention in other schools. Some of the band members have been selected to feature in commercial advertisements. All this as a result of the exposure the boys get when they go out there and perform. Inserted below are pictures of the last band camp we had as well as some performances the band made on one of  the schools in Johannesburg.

We have a professional musician who teaches the boys how to read and play instruments, Mr. P Lengoasa ( The Band Master). A member of Parktown Brass and Corp Band will leave the School ready to join the professional world in the music industry.
