ABOUT THE GAME
The Johannesburg Securities Exchange together with Standard bank and Liberty Life offers learners an opportunity to buy and sell shares on the securities market, in other words, the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. The challenge offers learners the opportunity to learn about investments through managing a virtual portfolio of R1, 000,000. As only your imaginary million is at risk, you have nothing to lose and a whole lot to gain.
Any learner from grade 8 to grade 12 is eligible to participate by forming a team, consisting of four members. There are three categories to choose from. The Income game, which is a low risk game played by grade eights and grade nines, the Equity game, played by grade nines and grade tens and the Speculator, a high risk game played by learners in grade ten, eleven and twelve. Internet access is a prerequisite
In the past, Parktown Boys High School has enjoyed a high level of success in the game , finishing in the top five in the country. In 2008 and 2009, we finished in the top five by being placed second position and in 2010 we were placed fifth, fourth and first, winning a whopping R3000.00 for the school.
